It helped, but you know what helped even more?. Google a video on how to remove your washer’s agitator and scrape and scrub off all the built-up soap scum and gunk. Then your laundry room will stop smelling slightly of an open raw sewage line. 😉 this odor started happening when we moved to a home with septic and could not use bleach anymore in the laundry (were told it would kill the good stuff in the septic and mess things up). It was months before we started smelling it, but it was always there. It has nothing to do with backed up drain lines or plumbing issues. Just because your washer washes things doesn’t mean that it gets cleaned by doing that. Now i plan to remove the agitator to clean twice a year and will run an affresh tab in it at that time.
We never had any odor in our he front-loading washer for seven years. We always dried the gasket and left the door open. But, after seven years it finally had odor. We did three wash cycles with these and it is clean as a whistle. I think that over the years there must have been some soap build up even though we have soft water.
Who thinks of washing you washer?. Well it makes sense you put dirty stuff in it. I use cloth diapers on my baby, which i wash in my washer. When i joined some online groups for cloth diapers i was told i need to wash my washer monthly. So i checked out my washer and it had a clean with ahfresh setting. So i ordered the cleaning tablets and cleaning wipes. Super easy to use i just dropped it it and ran washer in a very hot setting. Afterwards my washer smelled amazing and the inside was shiney. I will be reordering shortly as i just used my last tablet.

“Affresh is Amazing!, This way I don’t miss a month and my washer runs great., Washer started smelling a bit funky several months after we “
I’m fortunate to have a 30 year old maytag washer & dryer that still run like a gem (unlike new models made to last 3-5 years). Sometimes my washer has a slight musty smell. I was told to try these refreshers. I followed package directions and it worked perfectly. I hope my washer last anothe 30 years.
Not really 5 stars for this, because it’s overpriced. Instead, get zep heavy duty degreaser, also a citrus product, but cheap, only $0. 25 a dose, instead of $2, so save $50 in two years. Zep, orange fluid in clear plastic jug, one gallon for $15 at home depot or your local. It’s citrus, just a lot of money saved. Use a cup on your affresh setting, dump it in the main tub. Also, could use cup of vinegar in the fabric softener hole and regular hot setting. Or, a cup of bleech in the bleach hole. Or, cascade complete dishwasher cleaner (make sure to clean your dishwasher a few times year, so it doesn’t clog and stop working).
We all know this is a constant problem with front load washing machines. I wash an average of 4/5 loads a day. Since the washer is in constant use and since the water left in the boot is enough to soak a full washcloth, i only wipe it out once a day. The last time i had the sears repairman out to change the boot he accused me of ‘washing machine abuse’ lol (not funny). Less than a year later, the seal was showing signs of mold and i really didn’t want to call again and deal with the same repairman. The first time i used the affresh months ago, i used three tabs and noticed little change in the amount of mold. The last time, i used two tabs back to back on a hot water wash and saw that the boot and mold had taken on a whitish color. I followed it up by pouring some bleach on the seal and letting it sit for about an hour. Then i threw in some 20 mule team borax powder and ran another wash. No one could have been more surprised than me when i noticed nearly all the mold was gone, even lifting up the flap of the boot i saw no mold.
Using these leaves my mind at peace after something has been washed that was gross. I don’t notice a smell, if there was one, after using this in my front loading washer. But i also follow all the recommendations to keep my washer from smelling, like wiping them dry after each use and leaving the door open to allow the water i can’t wipe up to evaporate. These usually just give me peace of mind i’m washing my clothes in a washer that isn’t disgusting from previous loads.
I purchased a new front load washer and i have been using this product since then. And it leaves my machine fresh smelling and clean. I always take the time to wipe it down with a towel on the gasket , door, and the tray unit. My machine looks like i just bought it, and i’ve it for almost a year now. It doesn’t take long to do and it beats having mold in the places you don’t think to check out. This product helps in keeping my machine looking like new.
I have both electrolux and asko front loading washing machines. With the electrolux, i have always left the door open, and the detergent tray open when not in use. So far, i’ve never had an issue with mildew, or an odor. I have used bleach, and the tide product as well to clean the electrolux and the asko. The tide product is a powder – this product is a tablet. I noticed that the tablet does not fully dissolve, as has been noted by other users. I don’t know if this matters or not. As i was not dealing with odor issues, i suppose that it adequately ‘freshened’ up the washers as it is supposed to do. I wasn’t blown away with sparkling results, nor was i disappointed.
After 2 applications, the funky smell is gone from my front loader. I just wish it were available in larger quantity packaging to bring the price down. Doesn’t have the strong chemical smell like the tide product. If using this for the 1st time, run 2 tablets back to back to get rid of the really bad smells, then once every month or 2 to keep the smell from coming back.
I thought this would be the final solution to my stinky whirlpool clothes washer. Product is ok but did not remove the stink. I cannot blame the product – it removed enough of the odor that i think i can locate the actual smell area, which is where i put in the soap. Unfortunately this product does not clean that area. Other than that product arrived timely and did lower the odor in the main washing compartment.
I have a two year old samsung high efficiency washing machine. However, after about 6 months, my laundry began to smell horrible, especially the towels. I’ve since learned that this smell is a common problem with he machines, but at the time i didn’t know what was causing the problem, nor did i know how to fix it. I changed my detergent and fabric softener, but the odor remained. This odor caused so much angst. I couldn’t do laundry without feeling extreme frustration. I even began to smell traces on my clothes and my kids’ clothes when we were out and i cringed at the thought that others could smell it too. I honestly cried one day because i thought that i would never be rid of this smell. I called samsung and they suggested a washing machine cleaner ‘like affresh or tide.
If your washing machine is truly dirty (ie mildew, dirt in drum, etc), these really aren’t going to do anything. I can see these working if there is a very slight odor, but this product will by no means work miracles. I ran through the whole bag (3 tablets) in three consecutive wash cycles on hot and they didn’t do a thing. I got fed up with the top-loader and fully dis-assembled it to clean inside the drum. It was an older, used washer, with quite a bit of dirt build-up and mildew inside. I cleaned it inside and out, however the smell persisted. This machine was essentially a lost cause. If you have a machine that is old and very dirty, don’t waste your time or money trying something like this out. Think about doing a full disassembly and cleaning of your machine or consider buying a new one. If you are buying these as a preventative step with a newer machine, i think these might be okay.
Cleaned up the drum and left a fresh smell. However, i used two tablets at the same time and let them sit in the drum for about 5 minutes in hot water before running the full cycle. I saw the gunk floating out of the drum. I don’t know if it got everything though.
These are a must for your washing machine. Ever now and then, especially when your washer is in the point of draining in the cycle you suddenly find yourself and your spouse blaming each other for who just broke wind. All the while, the washer is just laughing at you and not saying anything at all. Save your nose, no, save your marriage and use these tablets at least once a month in your washing machine. For those really stinky times, run two cycles with a tablet in each. We just have these coming on subscribe and save, great way to ensure we always have them. Disclaimer – these will not help you after those meals involving beans – for washing machines only.
I just love the affresh washer machine cleaner. I have been using it for years and now with our new lg he washer it is part of a regular maintenance that i do each month. I purchased the six pac for added savings. Very easy to use, tear open the package place the white puck in the washer, select normal wash or if you have the new washer like ours select the clean cycle. Your washer comes our clean and fresh.
I never bother to go back and write reviews, but i had to for this product. My washing machine was funky and that’s the nicest description i can come up with. I popped one of these tablets in and set the wash to hot as directed. When it was done, like other reviewers, two different earrings that i’ve been missing, magically appeared in the washer. It was as though they had been previously stuck somewhere and freed during the cleaning. I ran the washer again just because the tablet wasn’t fully dissolved after the first wash. Once done, the inside of my washer was sparkling and has not smelled funny since. This product is seriously amazing.
Several years ago i cleaned it with the sample of affresh that was provided with the machine. Recently i noticed that some of the drain holes looked black so i decided to clean it. I purchased the 6 pack of affresh and used 1 tablet. After the clean cycle completed, i noticed a lot of black dirt in the bottom of the washer. I also took an ice picked and scraped black guck from the drain holes around the tub. I vacuumed out the dirt with a shop vac and ran another cleaning cycle. Again, after the cycle there was some black on the bottom of the washer. I vacuumed it out and ran a third cycle. I also noticed that the drain holes were no longer black. I plan on using this product on a monthly basis.
I tried to buy affresh for my musty-smelling top load washer, but my grocery store had run out. I bought a brand-name liquid washing machine cleaner instead, and was very disappointed with the performance. Not only did the musty smell remain after 2 applications, the bleach in the liquid caused splotchy fading of a bathmat, apparently due to residue remaining in the machine. When i tried affresh later, its performance was much better than the liquid. The machine smelled clean after one affresh treatment, and there was no fading or splotching the next time i washed clothes. I’ll never try another liquid after seeing the superior results with this product.
Was using tide washing machine cleaner but it had a horribly strong scent. This product was recommended by maytag which is my front load washer. Clean washer with no leftover cleaner in the machine. Tide always forced me to do two clean cycles. You even get more tabs in the box than tide.
It definitely makes the inside of the washer brighter. As for completely removing the mold spots on the rubber gasket that seals the door/washer drum. . It did not remove them completely. Disappointing, yes, however it’s what i expected. I think this would work best on a newer washer, possibly preventing the mold. I know by using chlorine bleach with a full load of towels (use old towels) works better at removing the mold off the rubber gasket. Also, some old fashioned scrubbing with a brush or scrubbing sponge (using chlorine bleach). . But that takes time and can be difficult for people with disabilities. When under warranty, i had the gasket replaced and the repair man told me to always unplug the washer and leave the door open. This truly helps with the mold problem.
If you can get past the clunking noise the tablet makes for the first few minute of the cycle, it does the job. I had used powdered cleaner products before so i was not used to the noise. I have a whirlpool front loader with a specific ‘affresh’ cycle. The tablet did dissolve completely by the end of the cycle. Other reviewers did not find this in their case. I have used other products (cheaper) that had about the same outcome but i purchased affresh due to the mfg. I only had a ‘smelly’ washer twice in the 3 years i have had my machine. That’s when i started to use this type of product. And they all worked pretty well.
Stuff is the magic cure for that nasty stinky rotten egg smell u have in your old washer. It used to make the clothes have a funk to them unless i used a ton of fabric softener. The way to get the smell out is do it the way i did. 2 tablets and its been 3 months and it still smells fresh when i open the lid and haven’t done any laundry for a few days. I discovered this by accident. Now i had a really stinky washer. Its not that i am dirty or anything like that. Its because of the mold and mildew behind the tub of the washer. Stand on a stool and bend forward and look into the underside lip of the top of the tub. If you have black crud there, then you have a stinky machine too.
I needed to buy more and this was a better price than what was in the store and more tablets. The kids are supposed to do their own laundry, they also tend to forget about stuff in the wash and leave it for days at a time. Well not only do you gotta rewash the stuff but now the washer smells bad. Put one of these tablets and put the washer on sanitation or clean mode and run it, this will resolve that. If you’re like me and you can smell really good it’s easy to tell when there is a problem with the washer, the kids may not notice how their clothes smell but their friends might. I haven’t found a better option for cleaning my front load washer yet than these tablets. If you gotta put in a extra product into your wash to make your clothes smell good then stop that and run one of these through then go back and do normal load without that extra product. You might find you no longer need to waste money extra products to get rid of that smell.
For a comprehensive clean, start with affresh Washer Cleaner tablets on the inside, and finish with affresh Machine Cleaning Wipes to fully clean the rubber liner, detergent tray, glass door and exterior surfaces.
